Cookies, analytics
and your enquiry.
What this website records when you visit, what reaches Google, what reaches us with an enquiry, and how to switch it off.
This page covers how northland.equipment measures visits and advertising. Rental account applications have their own privacy notice, in the application and in section 23 of the Rental Agreement.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see how the site is used. It records the pages you view, how you reached the site (a search, an ad or a link), your device and browser type, an approximate location Google works out from your IP address, and actions such as tapping the phone number, opening a Blue Capital financing link or sending a form.
We don't send your name, email, phone number, company or message to Google Analytics. A form counts as “sent”, nothing more.
Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_85KVWVQB36) so it can tell one visit from the next.
Google Ads
We advertise with Google Ads. When you arrive from one of our ads, the link carries a click ID (gclid, gbraid or wbraid). Google's tag on this site can store that ID in a first-party cookie (_gcl_…), so Google can tell us an ad led to an enquiry.
We don't use Google to show you our ads elsewhere after your visit (remarketing), and we don't share your personal details with Google for advertising.
Quebec, Europe, the UK and Switzerland
If you visit from Quebec, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google's tags run without cookies. No Google analytics or advertising cookies are set, and Google receives only basic measurements that carry no cookie identifier.
Where your enquiry came from
When you send a form, it reaches our inbox with a short note on how you found us:
- the campaign tags and ad click ID in the link you arrived by (
utm_tags,gclid,gbraid,wbraid,fbclid,msclkid), - the name of the website that sent you, if any,
- the first page you landed on, and the page you sent the form from.
Your browser keeps that note for 90 days (in local storage as nl_attr, not a cookie), so it still reaches us if you get in touch on a later visit. We use it to see which ads and listings bring customers in. We may report back to Google Ads, by click ID, that an ad led to an enquiry or a sale.
Your choices
- Block or clear cookies and site data in your browser's settings. Clearing site data also removes the 90-day note above. A private window keeps nothing after you close it.
- Turn off Google Analytics on every site with Google's opt-out browser add-on (opens in a new tab).
- Control the ads Google shows you in Google's Ads Settings (opens in a new tab).
- Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services (opens in a new tab).
