Why we quote by hand, and take no card online

Every quote here goes through a person. That is a deliberate choice, and it costs us something.

You cannot book a machine on this site with a credit card. That is not a feature we have not got to yet. It is a decision, and it is worth explaining.

What an instant checkout would have to assume

To take your money in one click, a website has to assume it already knows four things: that the unit is free on your dates, that it suits your job, that we can get it to your site, and that the price on the screen is the price.

Three of those are assumptions we are not willing to make about a machine we have not discussed with you.

  • Availability moves. A rental comes back late and the unit you just paid for is on someone else's site.
  • Fit is a conversation. The machine you picked is sometimes not the machine for the job, and we would rather say so before you pay than after.
  • Delivery depends on your site. Access, ground, and the tightest point on the route are not fields on a form.
  • The price depends on the above. A rate is a rate; a quote is a number you can hold us to.

What you get instead

  1. You send a requestMachine, dates, job site. It takes about a minute, and it costs nothing.
  2. A coordinator picks it upA person who can see the yard, not a form that can see a database.
  3. You get a firm numberUsually the same working day, Monday to Friday.
  4. Then you decideNo card, no commitment, no auto-renewal you have to go and find later.

The cost of doing it this way

It is slower than a checkout button. If it is nine at night and you want a machine handled right now, we will not have replied yet. We are choosing a firm number the next working morning over an instant one that might move.

It also means we cannot scale by hiding behind software. Every quote is somebody's morning. That is the trade, and we think it is the right one for iron.

What this means for you

Send the request early if the job is tight. Before noon and most units ship the same working day. And tell us the job, not just the model — the machine you name is a starting point, and sometimes we know a cheaper one that does it.

Go on then

Tell us the job.
We'll spec the machine.
